Once Again, Mixing the Issues

I was going back doing some reading of articles and editorials I had laying around when I came across an editorial from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (MJS). It was an editorial entiltled "A Clear Choice on Crime", dated October 31, 2006. This was one of many editorials analyzing the gubernatorial candidates in Wisconsin. Of course, the editorial gave Jim Doyle their "endorsement", stating "Wisconsin is safer with Doyle and the helm". But, in list why Rep. Green was weak on crime, they state the following:

Green helped revoke a law requiring hand-guns to be sold with trigger locks --- a measure Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wis.) had pushed through Congress for the sake of Child safety.

Ok, are we taking about fighting crime or preventing Suzy-two-year-old from playing with daddy's 9mm? The left likes to really confuse the issues by throwing in some non-relevant "feel good" issue (it is done a lot in debates about the gas tax, environment and health care funding).

If the point is that criminals won't be able to use the guns with the locks on them, say it, otherwise I will take this at face value; and child safety IS NOT fighting crime.
